Hi girlie - did you have a nice 4th.  Didn't see you yesterday.

Merrily
Very nice.  Thanks.    :D

Grieving

“Buy you a drink?”

“Got a drink.”

“It’s about empty.”

“Came here to be alone.”

“Folks don’t come to a bar to be alone, friend.  Want solitude, go to a library.  Don’t look too comfortable, though.  Why you even here?”

“Just enjoyin’ my drink, friend.  Don’t want no conversation.”

The man pressed, something about the worn and weary cowboy tugging at his heart.  “S’okay...”

The stranger’s voice had a kind tone Ennis couldn’t bear.

Rising to leave, Ennis dropped his glass, mumbling something under his breath that only the heavens would understand.  “You aint got no business soundin’ like that.”

“Bumping down the washboard road Ennis passed the country cemetery fenced with sagging sheep wire, a tiny fenced square on the welling prairie, a few graves bright with plastic flowers, and didn’t want to know Jack was going in there, to be buried on the grieving plain.” – E. A. Proulx

Very good - precise.  I'm going to have to try that next.
BTW, I posted a fanfic on J&E today.  My first.

Merrily

Cool.  I'll check it out.   :)

Janice I still can't find it.  Maybe I am just missing it.  Can you tell me the date it was done?  That might help.

Thanks.

Merrily

. . .      Room after room, shelf after shelf, book after book, more words than he’d spoke his whole life.

Well, you did do it again, Clyde.  A perfect drabble.  Sometimes you really can't fix it.   :'(

“You mighty cocky.”

“I’ll show you cocky.”

“That was my plan.”

Okay, so I seem to remember someone saying they couldn't write AU and they weren't sure about doing humorous stuff - but that couldn't possibly have been you, right?!

Merrily where did you post your fanfic?  I'd love to read it.   :)

Grieving_pln, I believe I've read some of your drabbles before and have admired your work.  This is beautiful and profound. So glad to have you here!

Oh, yeah, Janice's "pot" drabble belongs in the Drabble Hall of Fame!

Greetings everyone!

Welcome to Riverton.
He saw the sign and smiled.
He shifted nervously in the driver’s seat.
His heart was pounding,
probably pumping more blood
than his body could contain.
His hands grew sweaty;
his breathing, uneven.
His feet felt hot and crowded
in his worn-down boots.
The familiar stir returned,
the heat in his chest,
the warmth in his loins -
they took over his senses.
Ennis was close.
He could feel it.
Every fiber of his being hummed
like a taut guitar string.
He spotted the laundromat,
half a block away.
He stopped the truck,
needing to still himself,
to no avail.
His mouth grew drier,
his heart raced faster.
Ennis was so close.
You Bet.

Damn, I love that!  The pounding, the humming, the racing - and we know the greeting he's going to get!  You Bet, indeed!   ;D
