I think I have the "technical background" to write an AU railroad story, but it wouldn't be what Eric is looking for. It would just be another of my PG-rated AU exercises, and the steam would come from a locomotive, not from the boys. ...  :-\

To be honest, that would be fine too, as I'm more interested in reading about their life experiences, rather than the steamy sex.  The latter is just icing on the cake, and in some Fan Fic's I've actually skipped reading the paragraphs of sex and continued on with the story...

There is 'Union Pacific' by Maggie, although it's not about the railroad as such.

It's the first of a trilogy, and it's excellent!

Unfortunately, Maggie deleted her Livejournal a few years ago. That was a loss. She was very prolific. The only "major"  story of hers I read was Mason Dixon. I liked it so much I wanted to read more of her work--DelMar Painting in particular--but she shut everything down.
