Front-Ranger:
Your mom didn't have a stand mixer? :o You are a very good son for correcting that problem!
I don't have a stand mixer because there's no room to store it. My daughter has one I could borrow, but I have a very good Black and Decker hand mixer that is powerful. But you have to hold it while you mix; you can't go off and do other things.
So the latest thing is an immersion mixer. Does anyone use one of those? I was making Butternut Squash Soup today and idly wondering if I should get one of those instead of putting everything in a blender.

I've never had a stand mixer, but I did have a hand mixer. It stopped working a few years ago and I haven't replaced it.
I could definitely use it at least once a year, though, when making whipped cream to go on the bourbon sweet-potato pie I always contribute to the family Thanksgiving dinner. I tried whipping it with a whisk but it would have taken forever and was messy, so I just brought the flavored heavy cream to my ex-husband's dad's house, where my son and his fianc? were making dinner. My son was actually the one who whipped it, using a hand mixer.
I'd like to hear the pros and cons of a hand mixer vs. an immersion blender, which I've also thought about getting.
Jeff Wrangler:
I found a stand mixer in the basement. It was probably my grandmother's. I don't remember my mother having one. I gave it to the church yard sale.
I guess I'll have to google "immersion mixer," since I've never heard of it.
Sason:
Are immersion mixers a new thing over there? I'm surprised, since we've had them for at least 30 years, probably more. New gadgets usually hit Murrica before Sweden.
Anyway, I have one, don't use it very often, but when I do it's great. Saves you a lot of dishes, and pouring things back and forth.
The food you use it for has to be at least semi-fluid, otherwise it won't work.
And please don't forget to immerse it totally, otherwise it will spray all over your kitchen.

An immersion mixer is often called an immersion blender. it's basically a hand-held item with blades like a blender, and you use it to blend stuff.
