Alright, can someone please explain to this Antipodean the difference between bobcats, cougars, mountain lions and any other member of the cat family (pumas? panthers??) that happen to live in your corner of the planet.

a little bigger than a housecat....no tail, spotted....
cougar, puma, mountain lion...all the same thing...just have different names in different parts of the country

the fourth largest cat in the world behind lions, tigars and jaguars. 7 to nine feet long. can jump 20 feet. Has been known to kill adult humans. mostly eats deer. Has a long tail and no spots (kittens have spots not the adults)
panther is a black jaguar. I am not so sure there is a population around these parts but I do think it is possible one has escaped from a private collector. (would you tell anyone if your illegal animal that no one knows about got loose?)
