"U" is The Ultimate Degenerate (1969)
« Reply #3780 on: May 02, 2008, 11:53:50 am »

IMDB: Maria is in the city, bored with her lover Tammy. An exhibitionist, she answers an ad in the "New York Review of Sex." She's invited to a house in Vermont, owned by an eccentric named Spencer, a man who likes to watch. Maria goes, seeking thrills. She meets women who spend their days rehearsing for shows staged for Spencer. He has a concoction of aphrodisiacs, and the women are happy to take the drugs and play - with each other, for the camera, in front of Spencer, and with Boris, Spencer's assistant who runs the household. Maria throws herself into the games. Which person will prove to be the ultimate degenerate?

Women's Prison Films

From xploited Cinema: As the title suggests, there's not much mystery as to what this movie is all about, and fans of both horror and women's prison films won't be disappointed. In a small third world country, Sarah and her boyfriend Jack go camping in the woods despite all warnings about the dangers awaiting them.

When Sarah wakes up in prison, blamed for killing and mutilating Jack, she knows they should have stayed away. But what she doesn't know is that she's been bitten by a werewolf, which is about to come in handy when those in charge of the prison try to sell her as a sex slave. Will the full moon help her to carve out some revenge against her captors and set her free?

Bible Exploitation

Excerpt from Review by Mark Kermode at http://www.bfi.org.uk/sightandsound/review/945  :  While such debates are of vital import to those who consider The Passion of the Christ a declaration of religious and historical faith, their significance is perhaps diminished when the film is considered within the cannon of exploitation cinema to which it also belongs. Despite the use of 'authentic' Latin and Aramaic dialogue, the language of the movie is often that of phantasmagorical fantasy rather than period 'realism'. Indeed, what is most surprising is just how upfront Gibson is in declaring his gothic reference points. From the film's full-moon opening in a ghostly Garden of Gethsemane, with its ominous echoes of every horror movie from Night of the Living Dead to An American Werewolf in London, The Passion frequently walks and talks like an unashamed monster movie. Lurking within its reels we find an apparition of Satan whose pallid visage recalls the subliminal 'Captain Howdy' face from The Exorcist ; a gaggle of monstrous children apparently hijacked from The Brood ; and even a demon baby who seems to have crawled off the set of Larry Cohen's It's Alive. Most famously, we also have a series of spectacular physical tortures which put the torments of Last House on the Left and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to shame. By the time the contents of the (Turin) shroud magically evaporate on screen in the enigmatic tomb-bound finale, we have passed through the looking-glass of history into the realms of supernatural myth.

In English: The Hot Month of August

Synopsis: A young man, Jason, is on his way home and meets two beautiful women, Hope and Alexis. He falls for Hope, but has sex with Alexis. He doesn't know that Alexis' husband has hired a private detective to trail her, and the man reports back to Alexis' husband about her affair with Jason. The husband kills Alexis but the police suspect Jason. He and Hope have to clear his name and find enough evidence to prove the husband is the killer.

Trivia: Producer/director Doris Wishman was on vacation in Greece and bought two films from a bankrupt Greek film studio. Unfortunately, she lost the script for this film and had to make up her own story for it, so she shot new footage, invented a new storyline and re-assembled the film.

Doris Wishman ("the female Ed Wood") was quite a character. You can read more about here here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doris_Wishman

Just how scary can we be....

Unplayed movies only, please, from 1888-2013. Wildcard X is in effect.

Both archives should be up-to-date shortly, for your searching pleasure.
