By oilgun at 2008-09-21
Synopsis
A department of molecular biology at a major university. Somewhere in Europe, in the near future. A young idealistic geneticist, Thomas Nielsen, meets Vincent Iparrak, a criminal monster now serving time for having brutally murdered several women. Nielsen pretends to be merely studying Iparrak’s DNA, but in fact the has his own agenda. The researcher convinces the killer to be his guinea pig: If the geneticist can prove that Iparrak's violence is inborn, he can save him from the death penalty. In exchange, the killer must allow the scientist to modify his DNA so to eliminate the "animal" inside him. A chain of uncanny events brings these two polar opposites together in a clash between humanity and bestiality: The killer discovers compassion and the geneticist embraces violence.

"R" is Rusty Leads the Way (1948)
« Reply #5032 on: September 21, 2008, 05:20:32 pm »

Columbia's dog-and-boy "Rusty" series galloped ever forward with "Rusty Leads the Way." This time, young Danny Mitchell (Ted Donaldson) and his canine pal Rusty (played by "Flash") befriend blind girl Penny Moffatt (Penny Waters). Feeling cheated by life, Penny resists all efforts to cope with her handicap. But with Rusty's help, the girl gains a new lease on life and agrees to adopt a seeing-eye dog. In addition to Ted Donaldson, John Litel and Ann Doran make return appearances as Danny's understanding parents. Way, way down on the cast list is young "Wayne Hickman," who of course grew up to become Dobie Gillis' Dwayne Hickman.

« Reply #5033 on: September 21, 2008, 05:31:02 pm »

IMDB: Two NASA chimps that are sent to a galaxy far, far away. One chimp has "The Right Stuff," and the other, a good natured goofball, has "The Wrong Stuff." The simian slacker becomes a reluctant hero and learns the true meaning of courage as he and his crewmates, the fearless Lt. Luna and their uptight commander, Titan, risk everything in an effort to save the peaceful inhabitants of a distant planet from the evil dictator Zartog.

"T" is Troll-Elgen (1927)
« Reply #5034 on: September 21, 2008, 08:20:29 pm »

IMDb:  "Troll-Elgen" offers a story split between the traditional rural life and the urban Oslo of the 1920s. The Magic Moose (literally the Troll Moose) of the title is a sort of Loch Ness monster that the farmers claim to have seen but none have been able to hunt down. The rather traditional intrigue involves a farm hand that wants to marry a rich farmer's daughter. The father says that the boy would have to kill the mythical moose if ha was to deserve his daughter's hand. Instead he ends up escaping to Oslo and working as a masked shotgun virtuoso in a circus after killing another suitor in a fight over the girl. Or did he?...

From IMDb:  This is a sweet tale about a rat who seeks success but gets stuck with an ugly duckling.

Quote:     Ratso: Anyway, you're not as different as you might think. Deep down, everybody's --
Baby Ugly: Beautiful?
Ratso: No. Everybody's ugly.

"V" is Vache et le prisonnier, La (1959)
« Reply #5036 on: September 21, 2008, 09:28:39 pm »
From IMDb:
This is Fernandel's blockbuster.Even before the war, none of his movies had made so much money.

Further detailed retrospection indicates that "La Vache et le Prisonnier" thoroughly deserved its success.Even today, when it is on TV ,it attracts figures of million people. It is not certainly weaker than Renoir's "Le Caporal Epinglé" although Verneuil is not considered an "auteur".

During WW2, a prisoner tries to escape from Germany. It will not be a "great escape" .To get unnoticed he will travel with a cow called Marguerite (=Daisy). This unusual pairing en route to the man's homeland is not out of the woods. [If this had been a US production, it would be a theesome with RUSTY the Nazi Dog!- Me]

Based on a true story, this entertaining movie features an unexpected funny (or sad more like!) ending.

The whole family can enjoy it:  the children will love Marguerite. [Rusty!!  Let go of my leg!...Bitte?]

Cliche, maybe, but I loved this film when I was a kid.
