Oh, wow, thank you so much.
A cake, a horse, some whiskey, Lureen's hat, nice brokie meeting memories, flowers and birthday balloons, what great gifts!
As some of you already know, my sister in law is very ill. She was diagnosed with colon cancer last march and it has spread to her liver and her lungs. She's a dear friend of mine and godmother to my youngest daughter. The doctors had been able to halt the cancer from spreading further until a couple of weeks ago. The spots in her lungs are getting bigger, she's coughing again.
She's now started an experimental chemo therapy. We can only hope, but this will be a tough year that's for sure.
We spent the end of year together with our friends and their families in a holiday cottage in the wintry Ardennes, just over on hour away. It was nice, really nice. It really comes down to cherishing all the moments we have together. We had a good time eating good food (my sister and I do most of the cooking, she did Italian and I made chicken tikka) drinking lots of champagne and beer.
It's bittersweet though. I don't want to be sad around her but it's a struggle sometimes to come to terms with the fact that her time is limited. She bought me 3 (!) birthday cakes yesterday and gave me the Narnia crown that came with one of them, which I wore proudly all day yesterday. I love it that we can still do silly things like that and have fun.
So, here's to making a many good memories in 2010 as possible. Cheers
