One trait that Cassie brought out in Ennis was cowardice: 

  • too cowardly to tell her straight on that he wasn't the marryin' kind
  • too cowardly to tell her straight that he wasn't interested in her
  • too cowardly to tell her that he was .. huh .. g g gay.
