Paul's trick again! After my usual CRANE and TOILS, I was left with ditch, hitch, pitch and witch. So, I chose "WIDTH", guaranteed to get it! Homage to "Wicked", perhaps??

I used Paul's trick, too! In almost exactly the same way. My narrowing guess didn't include an H because I always forget about repeated letters, but I had not eliminated N yet so for me it also could have been NITCH. Also BITCH, I suppose, but that seemed unlikely.
I think they do now and then use words that are vaguely connected to current events. This one perhaps more directly than most. I can't think of any others, but I seem to recall seeing them. And of course while they were on strike, the union's temporary setup used exclusively words that related to LABOR, etc.
Wicked sounds pretty good!

Looks like I'm not the only one who hasn't read "Eliose" for, uh, a few years.
