I want to put in a plug for the new story “Ennis’s second visit to the Twist ranch.”  The story's URL is marc-r.livejournal.com

It also has its own thread.

The story does everything right.  The dialog between Jack’s mother and Ennis is heartfelt.  There’s a lot of grief in the story.

Jack’s in the story, too, in a sweet way.

And the ending feels really good.

I think anyone who loves the movie would enjoy the story.

And even if you don't like stories where Jack is dead, please give this one a try.

I've spent the last three days practically in bed; reading fan fics and not doing much else. I have re-read a whole bunch of my favorites that I have saved on my HD.
My reading list for the last three days has been a follows

Friday: In Plain Sight by Victopet and The Moments Inbetween by Lolitaray
Saturday: Policy of Truth by Jacksharmonica and Propinquity by Lolitaray
Sunday: Portrait of a Farmer and Lake Geneva by B73

there´s nothing like fan fics when you´re feeling a bit down :)

Do you remember these stories?

Reading blog: This weekend: Portrait of a Farmer (yes - again!) by b73, A different Dream by Coffeecat and the first 4 chapters of Bus Stop
Just started: The del Mar Painting by b73

By the way, I´m looking for two stories I read a while back but can´t remember the names of. It´s driving me crazy.
Maybe you can help me out.

Story #1
In it, Ennis is a pilot and Jack is some kind of repair man. They meet one night when Jack breakes into Ennis´s house (mistakingly thinking he´s saving an abondoned dog inside a deserted house).
Later on I remember Jack finding a porno flick inside the house.

Story #2.

Jack and Ennis are together and they end up in some motel somewhere where they meet Rich (as in Earl and Rich). I think he owns the motel. That´s about all that I remember.

hey, it´s almost like a quiz ;)

Are b73's stories re-posted somewhere? I thought she took them all down?

Monika, this sounds like "Another Kind of Love" by whiskiegurl a/k/a Sienata.  I loved the way the story started.  But it's been sitting unfinished for a long time now.    The second one you mentioned doesn't sound familiar to me - but it's an interesting premise!

What do you think of "Bus Stop" so far?  I like the premise and I read the first two chapters, but I'm undecided.  The characterizations seemed a little over-the-top for my taste, but maybe I just didn't give it enough of a chance.

You´re right, it was Another Kind of Love. Thanks! It drives me mad when I can´t find old stories that I want to read again.

About Bus Stop; I read the first chapter of Bus Stop when it first was published, and I didn´t think I would read any more.
But since I love Riding With the Wind, I decided to give it another chance. Like you, I like the premise but I think it´s off to a somewhat slow and uninteresting start. But I´m gonna read at least next chapter when it´s posted (ch7) because it finally seems as they are gonna meet one-on-one so I hope the story picks up the pace from there on.

Yes, I enjoyed "Ride the Wind" too.  I understand what you're saying about the slow start.  Sometimes long narratives are necessary in a story, but sometimes they just slow it down too much when the writer tries to pile on too much background information, etc. to explain the characters and their actions.  I like when a writer can "show" us these things through dialogue and shorter narratives, but I know that can be hard to do, and actually take longer to write!  I'll give "Bus Stop" another try - sometimes reading several chapters at once puts the story in a better perspective.

Story #2.

Jack and Ennis are together and they end up in some motel somewhere where they meet Rich (as in Earl and Rich). I think he owns the motel. That´s about all that I remember.

The second story you're looking for should be "'If Anyone Can Show Just Cause, Speak Now...'." by vln_bbmfan. Jack shows up at Ennis's wedding, just in time to keep him from marrying Alma. They run away together and end up in a motel which is owned by Rich. I think they are at the Twist's ranch for a little while before ending up in the motel. Ennis finds work on a ranch and they find friends in an elderly couple, Elmer and ? (I forgot the woman's name. Was it Doris or Iris? - dunno).

There's a sequel "Till Death Do Us Part" and another sequel to that "All Shook Up". All shook up is unfinished and not updated since March 2008.

I read the first part (If Anyone can..) and parts of the second one (when the army actually does get Jack).

Here's the link to vln_bbmfan's journal.

http://vln-bbmfan.livejournal.com/

From there, you gotta look for yourself. I couldn't find links for the first part ("If Anyone..."). Guess you have to browse though her journal way back in time.

Edit:

I finally found it! Listing of all chapters of "If Anyone...". Complete with links:

And here's the page with links to all chapters of the second part ("Till Death Do Us Part"):

To make it complete, here are all chapters of the unfinished "All Shook Up":

That's very helpful! Thanks Chrissie :-*

Another story I was looking for was when Jack joins the army and ends up way up north somewhere, but I realise now that it's the same story. Thanks for bringing order to my chaos ;D

There have been periods of time when I've just read one fan fic after another, and have simply not taken time to scribble down the titles. Without you all I'd be completely lost :)
