Jack found himself with a vague managerial title, travelling to stock and agricultural-machinery shows.  He had some dinars now and found ways to spend them on his buying trips.  A little Farsi accent flavored his sentences, “cow” twisted into “گاو” and “wife” coming out as “ملکه.”  He’d had his front teeth filed down, set with gold plugs, and capped, said he’d felt no pain, wore leather pants and a round bronze pendant.
