hey, thanks--do feel a little better today.

"Good Morning Starshine" December, 1975*   AU

(Jack is slowly recovering from the body beating that even his body objects to after a while with excess drivng)
Jack: (sings: Good morning starshine
The earth says hello
you twinkle above us
 we twinkle below
...(then he sings the three amazing lines of music, with each nonesense syllable in place:
Gliddy glup gloopy nibby nabby noopy la la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba nooby abba nabba le le lo lo
Tooby ooby walla nooby abba nabba
Early morning singing song; good morning starshine--

Ennis: (stops horse): Jack!
Jack (stops horse): Yes?
Ennis: When do you find the time to learn all of that nonesense?
Jack: When...?  During the 28-hours I spent in the truck last month, and the 28 I'll spend in it this month (he doesn't mention the 16-hour Juarez trip)--what do you think I do, memorize the Bible?
Ennis: You listen to songs..on the radsio..and learn 'em.
Jask: well aftera while ya can't help it! I think that one's pretty.

Ennis: It's a Jack-song.
Jack:What's that?
Ennis: pretty, and full of  nonesense. (instead of gettiing mad Jack laughs, and both horses start to walk again. Jack sings really softly, under his breath almost:

Good norning starshine,
the love in your skies
reflecting the sunlight
in my lover's eyes..

Ennis: You singin AGAIN?
Jack: Naw...

* this is the first regeularly planned-for visit after Ennis's divorce.

Jack, thinking: What's up Ennis? Ya got a secret locked up in there? Want a sliver of Jack to suck on, hmm? (My poor, poor love--he's scared shitless. I wonder how long it's been since lips have touched his with love? Probably not since he was a small boy...)
