A stool pigeon (like Paul said) is someone who tells information that should be kept secret.   A rat, a fink (sometimes used together, as in "you're a rat fink!"), snitch and canary are all names given to people who tell secrets.  Canary is often used like:  "Oh, don't tell them that info, they'll sing like a canary!"

Sonja clearly needs to watch more 1930s gangster movies.

Here's what my crazy socialist dictionary lists as synonyms to stool pigeon:
call-bird
decoy-duck
decoybird
decoy bird

Guess that's why so many Americans are (overly) horrified by socialism -- nobody's ever heard of any of these. Now that I think about it, the words all do have similar meanings to each other, presumably fake ducks a hunter uses to lure real ducks, but they're not associated with snitching.

I actually do know yoga poses and I still screwed it up. Was thinking of cat and cow as being the same pose -- you usually go back and forth between them -- but of course they're actually separate poses that are frequently joined.

Wordle 966 4/6

⬜⬜🟩🟨⬜SHIRT
⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩GRIND
⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩CRIED
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩FRIED

Did better in Wordle, but as always Wordlebot had snarky remarks, saying that instead of CRIED I should have guessed DECAF. Once again, that might have eliminated more letters, but CRIED revealed what the last four letters were, whereas DECAF (which barely seems like a word anyway) also would have revealed four letters -- except they wouldn't be in order. Wordlebot and I just have very different approaches to Wordle.

Yes, because that's what socialism is all about!

I'm not even sure where stool pigeon came about as a name for someone who shares inside information with police about criminal activity. Maybe a jailhouse term? In any case, I can see why a dictionary grounded in another language would not know that. Whereas if I just google the term here, I get a huge list of results based on its definition as an informant.

I'll bet you could hear people saying "stool pigeon" on this podcast, "Great Detectives of Old-Time Radio".
