What Are You Doing for New Year's Eve?
« on: November 21, 2006, 02:50:16 pm »
I'm thinking about taking in a concert by the Yonder Mountain String Band, which will be playing at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. What are other people's plans??

I've long had this belief that as I liveth my New Year's Eve, so goeth my coming year, or maybe more like "Begin as you mean to go on."

So, probably this New Year's Eve, we'll spend at home, having spent the day tidying the house and getting it peaceful and lovely.  Seattle has fireworks on New Year's Eve, and I love watching them - albeit from a distance.  So far, we have never taken my daughter out at midnight to see them, but maybe we will this year.  We could get in the car, and put a blanket on her, and just watch them from a hill.

My stepfather was Southern, so we have black eyed peas on New Year's Day.  Sometimes we have an open house that day, but I haven't thought that far yet, this year (til right now).

Hi Elle, what is an open house, please?

Looks like I'll be home alone with my daughter, since her father's going to play music in an overbooked restaurant... I like a quiet night on my own. Come to think of it, I might watch BBM! From 11.15 till 01.30. Best way to end the old year, and start the new one!

Last year was a Humphrey Bogart movie marathon - The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Key Largo, topped off with Casablanca.  This year...hmmm...maybe Jake and Heath?

A lineup like...
Ten Things
Donnie Darko
A Knight's Tale
Brokeback Mountain...

Hi Elle, what is an open house, please?

It's a party that might last from say 2pm to 8pm, and people typically come for a while at any point in the party.  Very casual, no formal time to sit down and eat together, just kind of revolving, people coming and going.  It can be very nice.  The one thing I am finding though is I can't handle the long hours of people still being in my house like I used to.  Maybe we'll keep it much shorter this year, like 3 hours in the afternoon.

I'm hoping to be somewhere other than sitting in my kitchen on the computer.

Maybe we could come over and help you move your computer into the living room - have a party while we're at it. :)
