Hey there, Roland,

I've been meaning to pop in and say howdy, see how you're doing.  No good excuses, just haven't had good internet access, lately.  I hope you're OK...Know I've been thinking of you...you're in my heart and prayers.

Love,
Lynne

I just don't get it.

I've been torturing myself watching shows on the HG network like Househunters and Househunters International, looking to see what houses are out there at what price.

Today's episode on Househunter International was about a San Diego couple wanting to buy a house in New Zealand.

She was a cake decorator - not a caterer.
He was a butcher.

They met at the grocery store where they both worked.

I looked up the salary ranges for both those jobs and I was thinking, hey here's an episode about people making regular Joe money, let's see what kind of houses they can afford abroad.

Their "budget"?

$500,000.00  :o :o :o

(the dollar is apparently still strong in NZ, the Kiwi dollar price was $800,000.00)

My jaw just dropped.  How do two working stiffs whose jobs do not pay a lot, afford a half-million dollar home??!?!?

 ??? ??? ???

All I can think is that they saved up a great deal or inherited some money, otherwise, they might be these sub-prime people buying more than they can reasonably afford in the long run.

I think that every time I watch those programmes.I think of my own kids and wonder how or if they will ever get on the housing ladder.Or will they be living with us for ever, now that's a sobering thought.!

One thing I'm getting sick of hearing - especially with more and more celebrities getting public about their various charities:

"Once I had my child, I realized that wow, the world needs...blah blah blah."   ::)

If I were them, I'd be embarrassed to admit how self-absorbed, uncaring and clueless I had been before I had a child.  There are plenty of charities around who are grateful that many people are more aware, concerned and involved whether they have children or not.

Whiny baby department heads or department heads with a Napoleon complex.

Last month, a meeting was scheduled.  My department was not invited.  The person holding the meeting called my supervisor to ask why our department was not attending.  He replied that we had not been invited to the meeting, he had no e-mails, no calendar events scheduled.

When the meeting was held, it was poorly attended, obviously due to the dept. head not being very organized in scheduling people to attend.

She e-mails the Chief Operating Officer to complain and he e-mails my supervisor asking why we didn't attend.  My boss grinds his teeth because in order to defend us, he has to contradict what this other department head said.  But he agreed we would attend the next meeting.

Trouble is, the next meeting was scheduled a month in the future.

Things happen.

The meeting was today.  Of the people in my department slated to attend, one was on vacation (my boss), another was on emergency personal leave, the other quit, the other was out that day, etc., etc. until basically there was only two people in my dept who could attend.  Me and another woman.

Trouble is, we both forgot about the meeting and there was no one to remind us.  Yes, our electronic system will notify us of meetings but only 15 minutes ahead of time.  However, if you - as in my case - didn't remember there was a meeting at all and left for lunch 20 minutes before the meeting, you had no clue.  My counterpart's reminder system failed and she didn't even get noticed about the meeting.  The dept. head holding the meeting physically came to escort her to the meeting, wondering where everyone else was.

Needless to say, the dept. head complained again - not to my absent boss, not to her immediate boss - but to the head guy.  I found myself having to explain to the Chief Operating Officer of my company why I wasn't at this meeting.  :o :o :o

And it wasn't like this meeting was very important.  It was a review of a client's telephone etiquette.

I kid you not.

I don't know why this woman is so insistent on mandatory 100% attendance at her meetings.  Few people have 100% attendance at any meeting.  The information was simple and could have easily been passed out to those who missed the meeting with instructions to review it with the people who did attend the meeting.  That's SOP normally.

So if the COO didn't like my response - I was honest - I may be out of a job soon.  The reason will be interesting.

There's always alligator wrestling for a living...

I need a big ol sign for the front of my car that says:

"PLEASE! DO pull out in front of me! I LOVE having to put on my brakes, especially when I JUST got this little bitty thing up to the speed limit! If you could, please, check and make sure that there is no one behind me because knowing you could have waited two seconds and let me get by really puts an extra layer of enjoyment for me.

THANKS!!"

ARRRGHHHH!!

I HATE when a website offers a 'free test' or whatever and then to get your results, you have to either pay with a credit card or switch to their service! I just spent twelve minutes taking a 'free' IQ test only to get to the end and find they want $10 to give you the results. I guess technically they DID let me take the test for free.....but what good is it if you don't get your score?? DECEPTIVE!
