"T" is Trevor (1994)
« Reply #3511 on: April 13, 2008, 10:24:04 pm »

From Amazon:

Trevor constists of diary excerpts narrated by their author, a buoyantly charming 13-year old (Brett Barsky) who loves to lip-sync to Diana Ross records, gets excited looking at photos of men, and develops a crush on the most popular boy in school, Pinky Faraday (Jonah Rooney), who befriends him.  Trevor's world comes crashing down when his true feelings for Pinky are discovered.  Mocked by classmates and branded a "fairy", Trevor is shunned by his new best friend and attempts to kill himself in a scene that is both heart-wrenching and darkly funny, but as played by Brett Barsky, Trevor is no victim. You can be certain that his enthusiasm and developing sense of self will see him through.

"V" is Veronika Voss (1982)
« Reply #3513 on: April 14, 2008, 09:41:55 am »
IMDb Outline:  Munich, 1955: A sports journalist meets Veronika Voss, an UFA actress who supposedly had an affair with Goebbels. Now declining, Voss is kept by her "kind" doctor, Dr. Kart, supplying her house, food, clean clothes and her favourite: morphine. Voss, trying to come back towards the cinema, cannot perform an absurdly simple scene, but it attracts the attention of the journalist, who suspects that something's very wrong regarding her doctor.

"W" is The World of Suzie Wong (1960)
« Reply #3514 on: April 14, 2008, 02:14:32 pm »

From Amazon:

A prim young Chinese woman on the Kowloon ferry accuses a middle-aged American of stealing her purse -- thus begins a culture-clash romance.  Seeking to escape his stifled life, Robert (William Holden, Stalag 17, Sunset Boulevard) has come to Hong Kong to become an artist.  He rediscovers the girl from the ferry and learns she is not what she seemed; she's a prostitute named Suzie Wong (Nancy Kwan, Flower Drum Song). Though Robert resists her charms, she becomes his model, and their relationship grows surprisingly complex.  While The World of Suzie Wong can be patronizing and has some dubious interpretations of Chinese manners and mores, it's also sophisticated (in a censored sort of way) about love, sex, and social pressure.  A viewer may scoff at the child-like hookers, yet find the movie accumulates an unexpected emotional force, particularly through its exploration of how the characters maintain their illusions.

Hey, like Sarah Silverman, I'm f#&%ing Matt Damon!
On the bed, on the floor,
on a towel by the door,
in the tub, in the car,
up against the mini-bar!

I never get tired of that song..

Re: ABCs at the Movies: I'm Feeling Sort of...Meh.
« Reply #3518 on: April 15, 2008, 09:21:44 am »
For this round, let's celebrate those movies that no one else celebrates--films that are just sort of meh. Not good, not bad, just mediocre. Movies that will never show up on a top ten list for anything!

I am really busy with work so I am a little behind on the archive, but I will try to get it updated asap.

Have fun!
