Nice, a friend in the Shorterdays camp! Thanks, Chuck!

It's amazing to me how birdsong carries when other sounds don't and you can hear the birds even through thick walls and windows. I guess that's a feature of evolution. Birds are amazing.  :-*

Maybe partly connected to the pitch? When I get too much bird noise, as I said, I turn on a white-noise app on my phone. You can set it for low or high, and at low I can still hear them but high drowns them out.

Gift article! Melissa Kirsch of the New York Times says the interval between Memorial Day and Labor Day this year is the longest possible. The longest possible summer! How is yours going?

A few days ago I noticed something that struck me as odd. In the spring at the house I would quite often be awakened early in the morning by bird song. This isn't happening now.  No early morning bird song. ???

Is that springtime early morning singing connected to mating?

I can't imagine wanting to block out bird song, but then for 40 years in the city I haven't heard it anyway.  :(

I didn't see that article, so thanks! I love summer, so the longer the better, IMO.

It can get very loud outside my window early in the summer. Not as much in the past couple of years, since they blocked the vents in the building, including the one right outside my window where my bird neighbors lived. But yes, it is connected to mating and by this time in the summer they quiet down.
