I've never heard of a salmon ladder or a word ladder, and I don't think of those fashions as '80s-specific, or even trends. Take HEADBAND -- girls have worn them since at least the 1950s, and into the '60s and maybe '70s. I was here in the '80s and don't remember seeing any increased amount. I think whoever wrote this was born in the '90s.
