That's one of the things that seems strange to me about Christmas in the US: there's all that build up; the decorations, the gift searching, the plan making for food and meeting your family - and then it's over after only one day.  Only one single, meager day and poof - that was it.  The next day people have to return to regular work schedules, shops, banks, etc. are open again, just a regular day.  I would feel betrayed if we had only one day after all this build up. I barely manage to squeeze everything that belongs to Christmas into three days.

In two years it will be different, as that year Christmas will fall on a Friday.  So we'll leave work early on Thursday, be off Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then the same thing the next week or New Year's.  Well, I should say that it will be that way for me, as we don't work weekends.

Oh gosh, isn't that creepy?

I hate it when I'm the only one at work. Doesn't happen often, only if I'm staying unusually late and everyone else has already left.

I don't like it, so I make sure it doesn't happen very often.

Sometimes it can be creepy, but most times it happens, I like it!  ;D  I managed to get all my filing done, got all my 2013 stuff boxed up and put away, and finished stuff I hadn't been able to for a while!

I agree Chrissi - I'd hate to work on boxing day for example. And in Scotland January 2nd is a public hioliday too.. I go back to work on Tuesday.

Speaking of Christmas Cards Chuck - I got yours Chrissi's and Paul's cards when I returned from my aunt's in Gloucester - we went down on 22nd and returned on 29th - thank you to all.

I heard that "grandma got run over by a reindeer" was the most popular of Xmas songs in the US.

Over here there are a few classics that I think the rest of the world have no clue about..

Kelda, that song is NOT the most popular Christmas here.  In fact, it occasionally pops up on the "most hated" songs.

The rest of the world? Hm, let's see: most of the videos don't play for me, but Slade - of course I know and like it!
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York is one of my favorite Christmas songs!
Cliff Richard: yup, know that one (not a favorite however).
Shakin Stevens: hey, I was around in the 80ies ;) This song also gets a like, but no favorite.

The only one sounding unfamiliar is the first. Wizzard? - never heard of them, and neither of their song. I went to youtube and found a version that plays in my country - unknown to me.

Now I'm curious if there's a noticeable difference between Europeans and Americans. :)

Gotta say, I've heard of those acts but not any of the Christmas songs that they released.

Over here the holiday season goes on and on. Besides Boxing Day, we have 2 public holidays at New Year, Jan 1 & 2. However everything is in holday mood with lots of people away and many businesses shut down or light staffed for at least 2 weeks.  As a teacher I always had about 5 weeks holiday anyway. In Australia we returned to school the day after Australia day Jan 26 and it seems to be similar here in NZ.   Of course, officially in the church Christmas does not end until Epiphany on Jan 6. I had lunch at the vicarage on New years day and they were choosing carols to be sung next sunday although an emphasis on 3 wise men for Epiphany.  I will take down my few decorations and cards on Monday although I did take the one string of coloured lights off my large Rhododendron on Jan 2. I only put them up about Dec 15. My walking groups begin again next week but other regular activities do not begin until February.

We don't have all that time off, but schools are closed pretty much for that time.  They generally close the 23rd of December, and reopen the 3rd of January.

We've heard of Cliff Richard over here in the Colonies.  ;D

Yup, we sure have!

We get a four-day weekend this year. Christmas is a Thursday, and the Powers That Be at my employer very sensibly decided not to ask people to come in on Friday, so we're getting Christmas Day and St. Stephen's/Boxing Day/December 26, 2014, as holidays.  :D

However, I expect we'll be expected to come to work on Friday, January 2, 2015.  :P

Was a busy day today, as I 'undecorated" the apartment.  All the lights, the cards, the tree, all is gone and packed away.

Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect.

It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfection

Hello Bettermost Friends!

Yup, that's what it was like coming into work today!   The warming temps and the melting snow resulted in fog, and it was a dense fog in places.  Very low visability, and I had to use my bright lights at times on my way to work.

Speaking of work, I'm in my cube now, it's still a bit quiet, although there are some people here with me, so I really shouldn't be here.

 ;)

Off to get stuff done, I'll be back later!

Hello Bettermost Friends!

Holy crap on a cracker, it's cold!!!

It was really freezing this morning, and I thought I was gonna have a frigid ride in to work.  I left the window cracked on my driver's side so it wouldn't freeze shut, which worked.  I went to work, and got to the toll booth.  Rolled the window down halfway to toss the coins in, and hit the button, and the window did not go back up!

 :o

It could go down further, but wasn't going up past the halfway point.  I was not amused, and kept tinkering with the button, and thankfully, it slowly went back up.

Tonight is bowling night, first time since before the holidays.  Let's see how badly I can butcher the game.  LOL
