They showed her sitting in this room pulling big chunks off a toilet paper roll and eating it. She craved it. She couldn't help herself. I felt really sorry for her. They said she eats six rolls of it a day. Then they showed her in the emergency room with severe pains. I completely forgot to watch the show. I remember hearing something similar about this girl that craved dirt. She would eat it by the handfuls. I'm wondering if maybe they are lacking some sort of proteins or something and that's why they crave weird things like that. I really don't know.
it's called "Pica" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pica_(disorder)Pica is a medical disorder characterized by an appetite for substances largely non-nutritive (e.g., clay, coal, soil, feces, chalk, paper, soap, mucus, ash, gum etc.) or an abnormal appetite for some things that may be considered foods, such as food ingredients (e.g., flour, raw potato, starch, ice cubes, salt, blood).[1] In order for these actions to be considered pica, they must persist for more than one month at an age where eating such objects is considered developmentally inappropriate. The condition's name comes from the Latin word for magpie, a bird which is reputed to eat almost anything[1]. Pica is seen in all ages, particularly in pregnant women and small children, especially among children who are developmentally disabled, where it is the most common eating disorder[2].
