Did the public DEMAND more and more celebrity sleaze-oid magazines and websites, or did the vultures who publish such things realize that if they built it, we would come and so created it all themselves?  I'm voting for the latter.

I think you're right, but that doesn't let the public off the hook. 

I don't buy those magazines.  Like oilgun, I will admit to perusing them at the gym when I'm riding the stationary bike or doing the elliptical trainer, but it's only because they're there already and they're free.  I SWEAR. 

Same -- for me, it's only at the dentist's office. The rule is that if the magazine belongs to someone else, you can peruse it freely with no guilt. It's also OK to read the covers in the grocery store, and even flip through the articles if there's a long line, as long as you don't buy it.

It's kind of like the rule that whoever orders the food gets all of its calories, so you can take as many bites as you like of someone else's dessert without worry of gaining weight.

WE would never spend hours each day discussing movie actors and looking at pictures of movie actors and deciding which pictures of them we liked best and exchanging information about their new movie projects and, if they're single, speculating about who they're dating and, if they're in a couple, wondering whether they've gotten married or are just living together and ... and ... and, um ...
