Hiya BetterMost friends!

How is everyone doing?

I'm off work tomorrow, and I'm using that day to clear up the final stuff I need for Christmas.  By tomorrow, everything will be wrapped and the apartment decorated.  I've been doing it in bits and pieces, and everything will be done by Monday.

:)

Umm..... I hesitat to ask......but does your "decoration" mean even more bloody things in the bathroom...?  ::)

Hiya BetterMost friends!

The weekend was very productive, and it was great having today off.  ;D

Apartment is cleaned, decorations up, all holiday gifts are wrapped and ready to go.  :)

I have next Monday off as well, so this means the rest of the month are 4-day work weeks.

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!

I can see two people who will be crossed off the 'can visit any time' list.

Hiya BetterMost friends!

Why the confusion?   Yesterday during a lull in the workday, I went to the closet and got the decorations to put out for Hanukkah.  There is a gelt bowl shaped like a star of David, some dreidels, an electric menorah, and a wall decoration in the shape of a star of David.

There are instructions on the wall, "How to properly light the Hanukkah Menorah".....next to that is the star of David wall hanging that says "Happy Chanukah".

Why are there various ways to spell "Hanukkah"?

I'm reminded of a routine by Rita Rudner, a commediennne, who once said:  "My husband and I just put up our Christmas tree....well, I should clarify....we're Jewish, but we celebrate Christmas, and will continue to do so until the Jews can agree on how to spell Chanukah."

I'm guessing the reason is that the first sound in the Hebrew word doesn't exist in English (or Swedish for that matter) and therefore doesn't have a "correct" spelling.

It's the "ch"-sound, deep in your throat. Same as "ch" in German, or "j" in Spanish.

I've noticed that the Americans tend to pronounce the sound as an "h" instead, both in Hebrew and Spanish words. Like, you pronounce Juan "Huan", and Channuka "Hannuka".

So, maybe out of linguistic laziness? LOL

I'm guessing that people who pronounce with and "h" in the beginning, also tend to spell it that way. Hence the confustion.

Hiya BetterMost friends!

A lot going on today!

;D

It's Friday, it's pay day, it's "decorate your cubicle day" and it's our holiday luncheon.  :)

Nice way to end the week, and I'm off on Monday as well!  :)

Monday at work is a 'cookie exchange', people are supposed to bake cookies, and then exchange them with each other.

I'll miss that, but I'm debating baking some cookies on Monday and bringing them to work on Tuesday just to share.

:)

But then you won't get any cookies in return!!!!    :o :o :o

What's the point of sharing cookies if you don't get any in return???

That's a highly philosophical question, right up there with "what's the meaning of life" and the theodicy problem.
