Need I say more?

Donnie Darko was Jake's breakout role in 2001.

An Icon if there ever was one and one of Hollywood's great funny men.  Here's an example from 1966 that I actually saw in the theater

Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number (1966)

We've posted a couple of different Marilyn Monroe movies but not Some Like It Hot, from 1959, which is one of my favorites.

Lots of good R choices including Rodan, Rock Around the Clock and The Rainmaker, but I went with this wonderful film, which I remember seeing in French class, way back when....

Just got my Criterion Newsletter and The Red Balloon has been restored and is being re-released.  I'm sure a DVD will follow!

Excerpt: How many children first discovered cinema through Albert Lamorisse's The Red Balloon? Long unavailable except in bootlegs and tattered 16 mm prints, The Red Balloon is returning to theaters nationwide, accompanied by White Mane, Lamorisse's action-packed classic about a boy and a wild stallion, both newly restored for a new generation.

I studied French nearly every year from first grade through my time in grad school, and saw these two films just about every year.  I love them, especially Crin blanc about the wild horses in the Camargue and a boy who loved one of them.  Now I have a DD, and can't wait to get the DVD and show her.  Thanks Gil, for this meaningful (to me) news!

I'm also going to snarf that revolving .gif for my avatar for a while.  :)
