--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as certain dark things are loved,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn't bloom and carries
hidden within itself the light of those flowers,
and thanks to your love, darkly in my body

lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way because I don't know any other way of loving

but this, in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

'ja like that one, Ennis?

Signing his contract, 1950--look more familiar? next thing, I'm gonna tell you his name, and you'll say "whozzat?"

His name is Jackie Robinson the first black baseball player in the major leagues.  The white guy is the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers who later moved to Los Angeles, California. His name is Branch Rickey.

How's that?

Righto! Both photos are Jack Roosevelt Robinson. Your grammer makes a person uncertain whether Rickey or the Dodgers moved--it was of course the Dodgers.

Ah--BUT: he wasn't the first black player in the major leagues. In 1884, Moses Fleetwood Walker played one year with the Toledo Blue Stockings (now considered a major league team). Black catcher, very good catcher, light hitter. Agreements, boycotts, Jim Crow---destroyed the crowd of black players waiting to get into the majors at the end of the last century...Gee, I was beginning to feel REAL lonely...thanks!
'nuff baseball, for a while, huh?

Gee, I was beginning to feel REAL lonely...thanks!

Here's another tidbit of information.  Larry Doby was the second black player in Major League Baseball.  Larry Doby played for the Cleveland Indians.  Larry Doby was also the first black manager in Major League Baseball.  He was the manager of the Chicago White Sox.  Sorry no pic available.  Maybe you have one Twisted?

The credit to both the Jackie Robinson answer and this tidbit of info about Doby goes to my husband, Bob, who is an avid sports fan.

God--MORE baseball (tangentially): I dunno about these Wyoming Methodists, drinkin' and smokin.' Jackie Robinson AND Branch Rickey were BOTH Methodists
--and neither of them drank or smoked.

Course there're no gay guys in baseballl...don't ask, don't tell...

and don't give no sign...
.N don't tell me about "The Dreyfuss Affair," cause that's a fairy tale.

Dev: Re-sent pics with new e-mail--same address, cause you sent it twice...wonder what's wrong? Also sent you a PM, confirming address--but can't attach pics to as PM (that I know of...)
