 In South Australia, where I grew up was raised, we had crayfish up to 6 kg (about 12 or 13 pounds), until over-fishing reduced the size they could get to before being caught.
Back about then, they were re-named rock lobsters, mainly to suit the US market.
(Apparently, the yanks fell for it, and bought a lot more, but they're not really lobsters).  :)

Hey, we're about to get a mother of a cyclone in Queensland, in a few days time, and more floods.
Two weeks ago this area was wet and warm, and the lawn was going gangbusters. Now it's just hot and dry, and everything in the garden has wilted. Next week or so it will probably be back to floods. Lucky I'm high in the hills, but getting to the office down in town could be tricky.  :-\

A "Venus Di Milo" story for you all.

Many years ago (I was probably about 10, my brother Mike was 8 ) I had seen a picture of the Venus Di Milo, but didn't realize that was the statues name, or that the arms had been lost.  I asked my mom about the statue, and apparently mom had no idea about it, so this is how the conversation went.

Chuck:  Mom, look at this picture.

Mom:  Yes?

Mike:  It's a statue.

Chuck:  I know it's a statue.  Why does she have no arms?

Mom:  (slight pause)  Because she was a thief, and after she had stole something, she was caught and as pushiment, they cut off her arms.  

Mike:  Ohhhhhhhh.

Chuck:  Really?

Mom:  Yes, they used to have laws like that.

Mike:  What was her name?

Chuck:  Probably "Greedy Greta".

Mom:   :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

where are we travelling today?

BTW, when I was a kid, I also thought the statue had always been like that - without arms. But I didn't wonder about it; I guess I found her beauty to be just as perfect as I do today.
I just read that she was discovered only in 1820. :o
When my house was built, she was still a sleeping beauty, buried in some Greek field.

Back in the dim dark ages when I was training to be a teacher, we went to a demonstration lesson where teacher students sit up the back and observe a lesson being taught. One child was chewing her finger nails and the teacher said "Do not do that or you will end up like Venus de Milo." The student teachers roared laughing but the children were dumbfounded. I always thought it was an example of how NOT to teach a class. :)
