Wildcard "X" is The Bells of St. Mary's (1945)

IMDb trivia:  The production was overseen by a Catholic priest who served as an advisor during the shooting. While the final farewell sequence was being filmed, Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman decided to play a prank on him. They asked director Leo McCarey to allow one more take, and, as "Father O'Malley" and "Sister Benedict" said their last goodbyes, they embraced in a passionate kiss, while the offscreen priest-advisor jumped up roaring in protest.

Sir William, wherever thou findeth such an excellent poster for V?  I bow to thee!
(I don't know the difference between thou and thee, lol!)

Why thank you, kind Jacob! I doth found it at the impawards site, which has the best posters, if you asketh me. I liked this one too (my second choice):

Herewith, the site:

http://www.impawards.com/2006/v_for_vendetta_ver5.html

NB: They list the year as 2006 but IMDb has it for 2005 (our gold standard).

"Z" is Zhivago: Behind the Camera With David Lean (1965)
« Reply #3363 on: April 03, 2008, 10:57:20 am »
from IMDb:

This film short "Zhivago" was shown on the TCM network. As the host explained, this type of short was often made as a way to advertise upcoming movies and whet the appetite of the audience so that they would come back to see the feature.

David Lean himself is shown in spots where he explains why the various actors were chosen for the roles. He had previously worked with Sharif and was his choice for the title role as Dr. Yuri Zhivago. Geraldine Chaplin (daughter of Charlie Chaplin) was at first thought too young looking to play Tonya, but they show us her screen test and explain why she was the eventual choice. For Julie Christie who plays Lara Antipova, Lean explains that he had seen her in a different movie and found her face unforgettable, and that is why she was chosen.

Very interesting, also, was the choice of Spain for filming in a location that looked like Russia. That included the construction of a set outside Madrid that was made in every detail to look like a section of Moscow.

A "must see" for fans of the movie, "Doctor Zhivago."

NB: This is included on the 2 disc DVD of Doctor Zhivago.

Re: ABCs at the Movies: Let's Celebrate!

For this round, in honor of Heath's birthday (tomorrow),

let's focus on movies that include

Celebrations and Festivities!

(Holidays count, too).

The celebration, festivity or other event can be in the title (ie, Royal Wedding) or it can be a theme of the movie (ie, Father of the Bride). If the movie has some sort of party, celebration, or event that occurs within the movie, that can be played too (ie, I am imagining the Christmas party scene in Desk Set).

Movies from 1888-2013. Wildcard X is in effect.

Let me know if you have questions!

A thousand pardons, dear Mistress, but may I query?

Didst thou mean to include films which have been played afore, or only hitherto unplayed films?

Unplayed movies, as usual. I think there should be enough out there, don't you?

Indeed, my dear lady.

To paraphrase the bard, "If film be the food of love, play on."

"A" is All You Need (2001)

IMDb user comment:  I absolutely loved this film from the moment it opened. The photography in the beginning was gorgeous! I knew this was "my" film as soon as the family started talking over Thanksgiving dinner. The mom over did herself (again), the Grandmother just isn't all there, and of course the siblings argue over who will say grace. Then after the meal of course the guys watch football and the women do the dishes. And all of this happens, and then what do we do? Relive the nightmare all over again at Christmas... only this time the grandparents out do themselves with gift giving, and the stressful holiday season tends to bring out the worst in families. I felt like the writer of this film had to have lived in my home!
