2100 replies... you guys are crazy.

John tells me he is noticing this thread during the backups because the backup software hangs for a considerable time as it backs this entire thread up.  He is suggesting that when it nears 2,500 replies, it might be a good idea to wrap this thread up.  The forum software maintains a database of all messages here and if something were to go awry in the index file for this message, we could lose the entire thing.  I want to make sure that doesn't happen.  So I hope you guys can start spreading out the messages a little more so we don't run into a technical issue.

Hi Phil,

Can we start a new thread on the same topic (Part 2, if you will) then, so we don't lose our nightly get-togethers here?  It's become a really popular forum for ideas that exist nowhere on other threads (!).

What do you think?

Thanks,

rt

I was just typing the same thing, rt, wondering about a Part 2. And then even a Part 3 when that starts getting big, so then we won't fool anything up.
Just finishing the thread alltogether, or wrapping it up would be sad  :-\

Let us know Phil

Also, Phil, any updates on the live chat? That's part of the reason this is so long--we blab, alot.

Also, what has happened with this thread is that it has taken on a life of its own.  So many have chimed in, lurked, read and PM'd, commented and just gotten such a huge "jolt" out of it.  Wonder what we can do.

Yep, however, the most fun is reading the thread back....  now that is when the insights come...   ;D

Yes, true...and on those nights when the east coasters crash (that would be me) I enjoy catching up in the morning. So maybe live chat is not the right solution.

I agree. And some of us have become quite close. I know we wouldn't lose that, but the forum is a fun way to chat.

Because we are all in different time zones, the live chat wouldn't work.    So many of us read this read the next day to catch up.

My suggestion is that the thread be "Locked" every 100 posts.  This way people can still read the old posts and we can continue with part two, part three, part four, etc etc.

I have not forgotten at all about the chat thing.  I bring that up with John every night.  I am telling him tonight to dump the present software and we'll look at something I think is better and is already supposed to work with this forum software.  If that's true, we can begin beta testing it as early as tonight.  We'll see.

The problem with these enormo-threads is that it's virtually impossible for a lot of folks to keep up because it goes all over the place.  I don't have an admin opinion about what people start in here, but as a reader, this thread is very daunting because I couldn't possibly keep up.  What you guys launch as a new thread is up to you.  I am really a hands-off kinda guy when it comes to moderating and try and go with the flow.

I was considering an Anything Goes forum where people can just talk about anything - movie or not.  I realize there needs to be something to keep people coming back beyond just endless discussions about the film itself.  If someone wanted to post big threads or little threads, it would be up to them.

Would there be an interest in such a thing?
