Introducing the "Jack with Ennis" Fan Fic Game - the BetterMost Edition

Lonnie: Summer of ‘62

Jack caught himself watching Lonnie on the sly every chance he got.  There was something about the kid that pulled on him.  Lonnie was a tall, lanky blond who moved with a kind of grace that was uncommon for a boy his age.  When Lonnie first came to Brokeback he was sullen and withdrawn, but after a while he finally spoke haltingly of inheriting half of his granddad’s cattle ranch down in Texas, but leaving with just the clothes on his back because he couldn’t get along with his uncle.  Jack told jokes, sang songs, and played his harmonica in an attempt to lighten the boy’s disposition.  It worked, within a couple of weeks Lonnie turned coltish and started jumping him, and wrestling him to the ground at the slightest provocation.  Jack more often than not allowed himself to be pinned just so he could feel those long limbs wrapped around his body.

One afternoon toward the end of summer Jack came back to camp early, leaving the sheep to tend themselves.  He found a can of Better Most beans on the fire, but his campmate was nowhere in sight.  Jack looked around for a good half hour before he spotted the boy up in the woods leaning against a tree.  From a hundred feet Jack could tell from the movement of the kid’s arm that he was taking care of a sudden urge that required a little extra privacy.  Rather than letting Lonnie finish his business in peace, Jack followed through on a powerful impulse.  He went directly to the boy, fell in front of him, and took the boy’s turgid member into his mouth.  

When the deed was done he got to his feet and ran like the wind itself, as Lonnie called to him in a stunned voice.  “Jack?  Where you going, Jack?”  

When a storm came up a couple of hours later Jack reluctantly returned to camp.  He’d have to face Lonnie sooner or later anyway, so there was no use in staying out in the rain all night.  Jack found Lonnie had already settled into the tent.  When he pulled back the flap he saw the lanky kid laying on his bedroll wearing his hat, his boots, and not much else.  

With the squall whirling around him, and the heavens above cracking like the 4th of July, he asked, “Where’s your duds?”

“They got wet.  Now get in here, cowboy, ‘cause it’s my turn at the pump.”

Following the storm, time up on Brokeback went by pretty fast as the boys wrestled and horsed around more than they worked.  They never talked about how their season together would soon come to an end, but both knew that they could get the call to bring the sheep in any day.  Jack didn’t allow himself to think about it, so it came as a blow when he returned to camp late one afternoon for dinner to find Lonnie breaking down the tent.  He pouted, but Lonnie merely grinned like the good-natured kid that he was.  Lonnie acted like he and Jack hadn’t been doing anything unusual, and he pretended that their parting wasn’t particularly sad.  Jack tried his best to follow his friend’s lead.  He thought this must be how boys who played together were supposed to handle themselves.  

After getting chewed out by Aguirre for the sheep’s diminished numbers, they collected their pay.  The job was over.  Jack asked Lonnie what he was going to do now.  The kid said something about returning to Texas to claim his birthright as he climbed up into the back of a fellow ranch hand’s pickup.  Jack stood there and watched as the truck pulled away.

Wow Gary, this is a great read!  Very descriptive, and very well written, as always!  I wonder what happened to Lonnie?
