YOUNG JACK:
((still uncertain where he was going, Jack decided to heed the old CLERK's advice. He moved on as fast as his legs would carry him, wishing all the time for a spirited horse that could at least get him someplace faster... Even his old filly: the LOW STARTLE POINT HORSE sounded good right now, and heavens knew, she was a handful.))
((Thinking on old friends in high places wasn't helping matters much, though, and Jack felt a sadness wash over him. Didn't have enough money for a bus to anywhere, let alone up to where Ennis was, which was where he wanted to go. Would he be welcomed even if he went?))
((Jack pulled out a piece of beef jerky, chewed as he walked, which some people claim to have difficulty doing but Jack found he had a knack for.))
