Aww Littlewing, I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad day.  Those can be rough.  And it seems once the ball starts rolling you get hit with one thing right after another.  I'm glad I was able to help with a few words of encouragement.  That's all it takes most of the time.  Hope your daughter is feeling better, and I'm glad that troll is letting you post over at IMDb in peace.  You know that he only latched onto you because Clancy is no longer around.  The guy has serious problems.  Imagine the mentality of someone who does nothing but follow someone around the internet in order to say mean things.  The way this person is able to continue to pester people shows just how flawed the system is over at IMDb.

Hugs,
Gary

P.S.  I'm thankful that you're in my life, too, Littlewing.  I draw strength from your kindness and generosity.

Thanks, Gary, for your kind words.  Again, you have made my day!

Hi guys.  I'll catch up on the board tomorrow.  I just wanted to tell Littlewing that I found and posted a video of "I Wonder as I Wander" for her in my Christmas songs thread at the polling place.   :D

Gary

Thanks, Gary!

Very intriguing story, Littlewing.  The ending caught me by surprise.  So does Emma's statement meant that everything about Ennis is out in the open now?  And who is Ennis in love with?  If Jack is gone in your story, could he be in love with someone else?

Gary

This is sort of aan AU piece where Ennis and Jack are living openly as a couple.

;D that´s what my face looks like after reading this story. Emma is what Ennis needs, what Ennis deserves. You have a big heart, Littlewing, and it´s shining bright right out of every story of yours!

Dagi

Dagi, you're so sweet to me.  Thanks so much!

John Twist wanted to spare his son from the hell he endured at his own uncle’s hand.  But John found his demons were in control, had the upper hand.

John remembered fondly the first time he laid eyes on Roberta Townsend.  He was an usher at the Pentecostal Church where his family were founding members.  Mr. Townsend was a deacon at the church, and he made sure that his wife and 2 daughters attended service every Sunday.  John was just a boy when he first escorted Roberta to her seat.  He remembered her shy glances at his white gloved hand as he led her to her pew.  John thought Roberta was the prettiest thing he ever saw, with her long brown hair, expressive eyes, and thin, neat figure.  Just one glance and John knew he had found a wife, a companion for life!  He had a feeling that Roberta was fond of him, and that he could convince Mr. Townsend to let him spend a bit of time with her.  John graduated high school 3 years before Roberta did, and neither had plans to further their education.  Once Roberta earned her high school diploma, John asked her pa for her hand in marriage.  John and Roberta were married in the Pentecostal Church, and Jack came along some 2 years later.

John cringed when he remembered the first night he snuck up to Jack’s bed and violated him.  He reasoned that it was just a one shot thing – that he wouldn’t do it again – would not continue to hurt his son.  And he did hurt him!  Little Jack was very brave to endure what he was forced to endure, especially as the abuse continued. Jack never told his ma, nor anyone else about the abuse, as far as John knew.  John wondered why the guilt didn’t kill him.  He couldn’t control himself; didn’t have anyone to help him understand his actions, much less control them.  John was relieved when Jack became a teen and wouldn’t tolerate his visits anymore.  John knew that once Jack physically became a man the abuse had to stop.  Jack would fight back, as any man would.  There was also a chance that he would be queer.  But John Twist refused to believe that he was responsible for Jack being soft.  “Hell, I’m not queer!”  Mr. Twist reasoned.  He didn’t understand why he molested his own son, but knew it had something to do with repressed anger, and helplessness.  It was almost a given that John would molest someone else the way he was molested.  Abuse was what he knew!

“Pa, where do you want us to start?”  It was Jack, standing right behind him.  Jack’s question shook Mr. Twist right back to the present.  Ennis stood behind Jack with a questioning look on his face.  “Pa, what’s wrong?”  Jack asked.  “You okay?”  Mr. Twist looked first to Jack, and then to Ennis.  He looked up at the barn and was again assaulted by painful memories.  “Look, we’ll start on the barn tomorrow,” Mr. Twist began.  “I think we should tear the whole thing down and build it back up from the ground.”  John Twist spat in the direction of the barn.  “I’m tired of looking at it!”

Afternoon.

Well, glad to see that OMT at least feels guilty about what he did to Jack.  And, think it's the right thing to tear down the barn and build a new one, tear down and destroy the memories of abuse and then build new memories of hard work and quiet joy and, hopefully, love.

Thanks again.

"Tear it down?" asked Jack, confounded by his father's sudden change in attitude. Jack looked at Ennis, then back at his father. "Well Daddy, I guess we're gonna need some more wood then!" The men volunteered to go into town to the lumber mill and buy more wood. Ennis tossed a length of rope and their gloves in the back then hopped into Jack's truck. Mr. Twist slammed the door on Jack's side. "Make sure ya go ta Hulett Post and Pole. Jackson'll give ya a good deal on that wood, ya hear?" he said squeezing and releasing Jack's shoulder through the window.

"Yeah, awright pa." Jack started up the truck, turned it around, then they drove off. Mr. Twist walked back to the barn and picking up a hammer, pounded a hole in the side of the wall. Chunks of rotted wood fell and sprinkled down like snowflakes. "Bastard!" he muttered under his breath.

The truck bounced along the road, with Roger Miller playing on the radio. "Hey Ennis, you heard this?" Jack reached over to turn up the volume. "I'm a man a' means by no means, King a' the road!!" he warbled at the top of his lungs. Ennis shook his head 'no' but tapped his finger on the dashboard to the beat of the music anyway. They both howled and Ennis turned down the radio. "Hey, Jack. You think yer daddy knows? About me an' you, I mean?" Jack felt around on the seat for his cigarettes, slid one out then popped it in his mouth. He pushed in the cigarette lighter on the dash with one hand and rolled up the window with the other. "Hmm... I ain't never thought about it much,"  he lied. The truth was, he thought about it often. Long before he ever tended sheep on Brokeback Mountain; long before he ever met Ennis, Jack wondered if he was a 'queer'. Jack looked like the other guys he knew on the outside but inside, something was different; something no one could see from the outside.

Just like Ennis. Ennis was all man, yet he was attracted to Jack. The lighter popped out indicating it was hot. Jack pulled it out to light his cigarette and Ennis' cigarette, too. Taking a long drag off the cigarette, he looked Ennis over then exhaled the smoke from the corner of his mouth. "Me an' you, huh?" he said with a sly smile.
